News and Update - Carabao Island Philippines
Boracay Property Holdings Inc. has already secured a contract to build an international airport that seeks to transform Carabao Island in Romblon province into the next Boracay.
Carabao Island, part of San Jose town south of Romblon, is a 15-minute boat ride from the smaller island of Boracay, and has the same white-sand beaches and pristine waters, according to Tourism Secretary Joseph Durano.
Durano said last year that the Carabao Island is about four times the size of the 10-sq. km. Boracay, which accommodated more than half a million visitors last year. It is closest to the Puka Beach, the northern part of Boracay.
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano last year said a Korean foreign company had committed to invest billions of pesos for an international airport, a marina, 27-hole championship golf course, 1,500-room hotel and resort, retirement villages and recreational facilities on Carabao Island.
San Jose Mayor Filipino Tandog confirmed that Boracay Property Holdings would construct the airport, adding that a consortium of Korean and Japanese investors would implement other components of the tourism masterplan.
